A 50-year-old employee of a multinational company fell victim to a sophisticated online romance scam after befriending a young woman on the dating app Bumble. The woman allegedly convinced the man to invest in a fraudulent stock market app, resulting in a loss of Rs 73 lakh.
According to the victim, a resident of Jalvayu Vihar in Sector 56, Gurugram, he began chatting with the woman on Bumble and later engaged in multiple video calls. The woman expressed affection and claimed to have earned crores through stock market investments, persuading him to download an investment app and join a Telegram group for guidance.

Over a month, the man transferred Rs 73,42,500 into accounts provided by the fraudsters. When he attempted to withdraw his balance, which misleadingly showed Rs 2,04,00,000, the fraudsters demanded an additional 25 per cent deposit. Realising he had been duped, he filed a complaint at Cyber Police Station West on Saturday.
Cyber police have launched an investigation and are working to trace the culprits involved in the elaborate scam.
