Assam Bomb Threats:  The Guwahati railway station and seven locations on the Gauhati University campus on Thursday received bomb threats, according to police. A bomb might be installed at the Guwahati railway station, according to a call made to the Meghalaya Police Control Room in Shillong, said Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah.

"Accordingly, we started the investigation with Meghalaya Police and also carried out precautionary measures at the station. We have so far not found any such object," he told PTI.

The Guwahati Police, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) collaborated to conduct the "search and sanitisation operation" at the station.

According to Barah, an email was also sent to the Assam Police suggesting that bombs may be planted at seven locations on the university campus.

"The mail did not say there was a bomb but asked the police to take precautionary measures in view of the possibility. We are trying to trace the origin of the mail," he said.

According to the CP, the Guwahati Police and the varsity's security staff have cleaned the campus in the interim but have not yet discovered anything.

When questioned if the email or phone call was related to any banned organisation, such as ULFA(I), the official denied any such connection.
