Barry Stanton, an X (formerly Twitter) user got his account suspended Friday for spewing hatred and racism against Indians and Indian immigrants in the United Kingdom on Elon Musk-owned social media website. The action by X came following huge outrage by Indians against Barry's rants and hate-filled racist posts on the microblogging site.
Suspension of Barry Stanton's account, which goes by username @barrystantonGBP became a trending topic with users sharing their ideas and X memes. While heated debates were also witnessed following the action over abusive accounts, hashtag suspension kept on trending throughout Friday morning.
With an active following of 1.8 lakh followers, Stanton was regularly posting offensive cartoons and memes showing Indians defecating in public. He has also shared a toolkit with the title how to chase away Indians from "white neighbourhood".
Not only Indians, Stanton also targeted Africans and Jews in several of his posts. This also drew severe criticism from the African community against the user.
"Why do black people think comedy is just loud people shouting?" one of his posts read.
After his posts came to notice, many Indian users flagged them and asked the X CEO Musk to take them down. A user Akshit Singh posted that he had flagged Barry Stanton's posts to Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw and Indian High Commission in the UK. He also claimed to have asked the authorities to investigate the Barry Stanton X account.
Another X user hit out at X CEO Musk for the current X algorithm.
"Musk has opened the gates of hell. It's been proven, in fact, that the current Twitter algorithm is pushing racist tweets up against Indians."
