Bengal Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several districts of West Bengal are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall for the next few days. Along with rain, the southern regions are also expected to receive thunderstorms and strong surface winds. The continuous rain is likely to reduce the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing relief from the scorching heat. The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings during the rain.

While almost all the districts of South Bengal are likely to experience rainfall, the weather department has issued a 'yellow alert' for some regions. As per the forecast, several districts, including East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and Murshidabad, are likely to witness heavy rainfall at least till May 31. The continuous rainfall is likely to lead to waterlogging in the lower regions, leading to inconveniences to the daily commuters.

The IMD also stated that the capital city Kolkata is also likely to witness rainfall on Wednesday, bringing down the temperature by at least three degrees Celsius. The rain will also bring down the night temperature and bring relief to public life.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kalaikunda in Jhargram district recorded the state's highest day temperature at 41.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Medinipur and Jhargram, both recording maximum temperatures of 39.4 degrees Celsius. However, the moderate rainfall in the northern districts kept the temperature in check, the weather department informed.

As per the weather department, Gangetic West Bengal is expected to record a fall in day temperatures by two to four degrees due to thunderstorms. The residents of this region is likely to witness similar weather conditions at least till May 30.

Along with Bengal, several other states, including Odisha, Assam, Jharkhand, and Bihar, are also likely to witness light to heavy rainfall.
