Bengal Weather Update: The Alipore Meteorological Department has forecast rain in South Bengal districts including Kolkata over the next few days. Heavy rain is expected to hit eight South Bengal districts till Wednesday. Scattered thunderstorms will continue in the remaining districts as well. Heavy rain alerts have been sounded in Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia. Thunder and lightning is also likely in Kolkata till Wednesday. Gusty winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.bengalweatheralert

“The monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Sri Ganganagar, Jhunjhunu, center of low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan, Panna, Daltonganj, Purulia and thence east-southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal,” IMD said in its bulletin on Monday.

“Under the presence of above meteorological conditions, widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely over West Bengal with heavy to very heavy rainfall activity at one or two places in some districts,” the weather body added.

North Bengal Weather

Heavy rain is expected to hit Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and North Dinajpur on Tuesday. Rain activity is likely to pick up pace in North Bengal from Thursday. Heavy rain will continue in several districts till Sunday.
