Bengaluru News: A bus driver for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) dies from a heart attack while on duty on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 11 AM as the bus was travelling from Nelamangala to Dasanapura.
CCTV footage shared on social media captures the moment Kiran Kumar, 40, suddenly collapses while driving. As he slumps to the side, the bus continues moving without a driver and eventually crashes into another BMTC bus in front of it. The quick-thinking conductor, Obalesh, immediately jumped into the driver’s seat, managed to regain control, and brought the bus to a stop.

Following the incident, Obalesh rushed Kumar to a nearby hospital, but medical staff confirmed that Kumar had already succumbed to the heart attack. BMTC officials confirmed that he was operating vehicle number KA 57 F-4007 on route 256 M/1 during his last trip of the day.
In a statement, BMTC expressed deep sorrow over Kumar's untimely death, stating, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kiran Kumar, a driver from Depot 40, who died due to a sudden heart attack on November 6." The corporation extended its condolences to Kumar's family and offered prayers for his soul's peace.
Additionally, BMTC senior officials visited Kumar's family to offer their sympathies and provided an ex-gratia payment to assist with the final rites.

In separate incident, 49-year-old bus driver, Semalaiyappan, saved the lives of 20 students in Tamil Nadu when he collapsed from a suspected heart attack. On July 24, while driving a school van in Tiruppur district, Semalaiyappan felt chest pain but managed to safely park the vehicle before collapsing. His wife, who worked as a helper at the school, was inside the van when he passed away. A viral image shows him unconscious in the driver's seat with the students in the background.
