Bengaluru News: Bengaluru police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old BBA student who allegedly died by suicide following harassment from her senior. The incident occurred on Friday at a rented house in Green Garden Layout under the Bagalur police limits.
The deceased, identified as Sana Parvin, hailed from Somwarpet in Kodagu district and was pursuing her studies at a private college in Kadusonnappanahalli. She was living in the city with a few of her friends.
According to police, Sana’s father, Abdul Nazeer, a civil contractor, lodged a complaint against a man named Rifas, a former student from Thrissur, Kerala. He had reportedly completed his studies two years ago. Based on the complaint, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The New Indian Express report cited Nazeer as alleging that, his daughter took the extreme step after continuous harassment from Rifas, who had been pressuring her to be in a relationship. “The accused is absconding,” said a police officer.
On Friday morning, around 11 AM, one of Sana’s teachers called her mother and informed her that the student was unwell. Nazeer, who was in Kodagu, immediately left for Bengaluru. Around 2:30 PM, he received another call from his younger brother, Abdul Jabbar, informing him that Sana’s condition had worsened and she had been shifted to Dr B.R. Ambedkar Hospital in K.G. Halli. When Nazeer reached the hospital around 5 PM, he was informed that Sana had passed away.
According to the complaint, Sana had hanged herself at her residence around 10 AM. Her housemates and college staff took her to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Nazeer further told police that about ten months ago, Sana had complained about being stalked, harassed, blackmailed and physically assaulted by the same man. The college management was informed, following which they had summoned and warned Rifas.
Police said Sana had stayed back home on Friday, citing breathing problems in her college WhatsApp group. When her friends returned around 10:30 AM, they saw neighbours taking her to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to trace the accused.
