Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will inaugurate the Bhopal Metro service today (December 20). The leaders will flag off the train on the Orange Line at 5 pm from the Subhash Metro Station.

After the launch, the leaders will board the train and travel from Subhash Metro Station to AIIMS.

Bhopal Metro: Details

The Bhopal Metro project currently stretches 30.8 km in the city. The project has two corridors -Orange and Blue.

The Orange Line is 16.74 km long, while the Orange Lineis  14.16 km long. These two corridors will connect key residential, commercial, and industrial areas in Madhya Pradesh's Capital.

The metro services will reduce traffic congestion by providing an alternative mode of travel in the city. The services will also cut travel time significantly, providing a seamless and quick traverse option.

The Bhopal Metro has one depot, along with two corridors for smooth services.

Orange Line

As of now, a 7-km priority corridor of the 16.74 km Orange Line will be inaugurated. The priority corridor will have 8 elevated stations.

The stations at the priority corridor are: AIIMS, Alkapuri, DRM Office, Rani Kamalapati Station, MP Nagar, Board Office Square, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Subhash Nagar.

Bhopal Metro Project: Cost

The cost of the entire Bhopal Metro project is Rs 10,033 crore. The seven km corridor costs Rs 2,225 crore. The officials have estimated that around 3,000 passengers are likely to use the 7-KM stretch in the initial phase.

Bhopal Metro: Security architecture

In the initial phase, 110 veterans are being deployed through the Uttar Pradesh Ex-Servicemen Welfare Board. These veterans will be responsible for security at the eight metro stations to be operational in the first phase.

This arrangement has been implemented due to their discipline, vigilance, and extensive experience in handling emergencies.
