Char Dham Yatra 2025 resumed on Monday after a 24-hour suspension caused by heavy rainfall and a cloudburst that led to a deadly landslide near Barkot in Uttarakhand, officials confirmed. The temporary halt was imposed on Sunday to ensure the safety of pilgrims amid hazardous weather conditions.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the development. “The 24-hour ban on Char Dham Yatra has been lifted,” he told ANI news agency.

He further stated that District Magistrates along the yatra route have been instructed to halt vehicles based on the prevailing weather conditions in their respective regions.
The pilgrimage was suspended on Sunday following a heavy rain alert issued by the India Meteorological Department. Shortly after, a cloudburst triggered a landslide near Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district. According to officials, two workers lost their lives, and seven others remain missing.
Repair work on the damaged road was completed by Saturday. “The washout that happened due to a cloudburst before Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road of the district has been repaired and the road has been made smooth, while the work of making the other washout smooth is going on,” said Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya.
Power Line Restored
He said that the 33 KV power line has been restored, while work is ongoing to repair the 11 KV line. Meanwhile, teams from the NDRF, SDRF, police, and revenue departments continue the search for the seven missing workers.
According to Uttarkashi police, the cloudburst and subsequent landslide occurred approximately four kilometres ahead of Paligad on the Yamunotri National Highway.
The two deceased workers have been identified as 43-year-old Kewal Bisht from Nepal’s Rajapur district and 55-year-old Duje Lal from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh.

IMD Issued Red Alert In Several Uttarakhand Districts On June 29
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in several Uttarakhand districts, including Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, and Nainital for June 29 and 30. In response, authorities suspended the Char Dham Yatra for a day to safeguard pilgrims. A cloudburst in Uttarkashi early Sunday led to the deaths of two construction workers and left seven others missing. As the monsoon arrived nearly a week ahead of schedule, it triggered landslides in the hills, swelled rivers, and brought widespread rainfall to Delhi and other parts of northern India.
