Chennai Weather: As per the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in Tamil Nadu till January 4, 2025. The weather body has also warned of light to moderate rain in Chennai in the next 24 hours. Various Tamil Nadu districts received widespread light rain on Saturday. Sivaganga, Villupuram, Erode, Ranipet, Vellore, Nellai, Madurai, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai, Ariyalur, Chengalpattu were places that saw downpour. There is a possibility of rain in Puducherry and Karaikal as well.

Tamil Nadu Weather

The maximum rainfall was recorded in Thiruppuvanam (8 cm). Erode Ammapettai, Villupuram Avalurpet, Ranipet and Arcot recorded 5 cm each. Wallaja and Ranipet recorded 4 cm each. Rainfall also occurred at a few places in Nellai district of Tamil Nadu. 4 cm of rain was recorded in the Uthu area.

Chennai Forecast

Chennai is likely to see light to moderate rain in the next 24 hours. Fog is likely to prevail in the early hours. The sky in Chennai will be partly cloudy.

Tamil Nadu Weather Over Last Few Days 

The ongoing northeast monsoon has brought heavy rains to Tamil Nadu, with rainfall 14 per cent above average. Tamil Nadu recorded 447 mm of rain against the usual 393 mm, while Chennai saw 845 mm (16 per cent above average) and Coimbatore experienced a 47 per cent increase in rainfall.

The Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department (WRD) reports that many reservoirs across the state are near full capacity. 12 reservoirs, including three in Coimbatore, seven in Madurai, and two in Chennai, are at 100 per cent capacity. 18 reservoirs have surpassed 90 per cent capacity, and 23 are between 70 per cent and 80 per cent full.
