Weather Update: A summer shower accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of the city on Sunday provided much-needed relief to the residents from the scorching heat, as it brought the temperature down. The Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai recorded a rainfall of 34.5 mm to 3.5 mm in different parts of the city. According to the forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a partly cloudy sky with moderate rain and thunderstorms is expected on Monday.  

Chennai Weather Today

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a rainfall alert for Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni, and Dindigul districts of Tamil Nadu for Monday. The weather department has also issued a 'yellow' alert for Chennai Today. A warning of lightning and strong winds at 30 to 40 kmph has been issued in the hilly areas of Coimbatore. Residents of Chennai are likely to experience a maximum temperature of 38 to 39 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 28-29 degrees Celsius today.

Weather In The Next Few Days In Tamil Nadu

On Tuesday, May 6, there is no major temperature change expected in the region as the maximum temperature is likely to remain around 37 degrees Celsius. The Mercury will rise on Tuesday, leading to slightly hotter weather with the maximum temperature hitting 38 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is expected to go down to 27 degrees Celsius. A slight weather change is expected on May 9 and 10, with cloudy skies and potential sporadic rains. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to range from 38 to 28 degrees Celsius. 

Flight Diverted Due To Weather Conditions

As rains lashed the city on Sunday evening, a few flights were diverted from Chennai airport to Tiruchi and Bengaluru airports. As the rains began, some of the flights which were scheduled for arrival at that time couldn’t land at the city airport, reported the Hindu, quoting sources.
