Chennai Weather Update: Tamil Nadu is experiencing humid and stormy weather with temperatures ranging between 29degrees C and 34degrees C, and humidity levels around 64 per cent. Winds are blowing steadily from the southwest at 26 km/h. In light of the worsening conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for today, warning of very heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds across the state.

A red alert has been issued for May 29 and 30, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Red and Orange Alerts: Districts Affected In Tamil Nadu

- Red alert for May 29 & 30: Ghat areas of Coimbatore and Nilgiris are expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and strong winds.

- Orange alert for May 28: Severe weather is expected across Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tenkasi, Theni, and Tirunelveli.

- Yellow alerts have also been issued for Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Kanniyakumari, and Theni, indicating moderate risk.

Tondi Records Maximum Temperature

Tondi registered the highest temperature in Tamil Nadu at 38.8 degrees C whereas Karur Paramathi saw the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 22.5 degrees C.

IMD Rainfall Forecast For Next 3 Days

- May 28 (Orange Alert): Heavy to very heavy rain likely in Coimbatore (Ghat areas), Nilgiris, Tirunelveli (Ghat areas), Tenkasi, and Theni.

- May 29 (Red Alert):Heavy to very heavy rain at several locations, with extremely heavy rain at isolated spots in Coimbatore (Ghat areas) and Nilgiris.

- May 30 (Red Alert): Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at isolated places in Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.
