As the row with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) widens, Congress on Sunday night hit back at remarks by DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin over tie-up with Tamil Nadu C<Vijay's Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Congress’ Manickam Tagore termed the criticism by DMK as “unacceptable” adding that Congress always stood with the party during difficult times.

"The Congress stood with the DMK in difficult times… we waited outside when they had a minority," Manickam Tagore told news agency ANI. "Udhayanidhi's words are unacceptable."

Tagore further defended Congress' move to join hands with TVK. He said, "Congress always stood with the secular alliance (but) Bharatiya Janata Party was making the connecting call for DMK and AIADMK… which is against our principle. Any understanding with the BJP will not be tolerated by the Congress."

‘We Should Never Trust Congress’: Udhayanidhi Stalin

DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Congress for extending support to Chief Minister C Vijay Joseph’s TVK after the announcement of Tamil Nadu Assembly election result earlier this month.

Congress had been a part of the DMK alliance since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. "DMK cadre was the reason for the Congress winning five MLAs. People voted for them because they wanted MK Stalin as the chief minister. But today, for some positions, they ran away without informing us. We should never trust Congress, which lacks basic gratitude and decency. We should never allow them near us. The people of Tamil Nadu will teach them a perfect lesson very soon," Udhayanidhi Stalin remarked.

Udhayanidhi also called out Congress for BJP’s rise across India. DMK passed resolutions in which it termed Congress as "backstabbers" and "leeches" benefitting in the state because of MK Stalin.

"I thought (Prime Minister) Modi and Amit Shah were the reasons for the BJP's victory across India. But it is evident now that the Congress is the reason for the BJP's rise in India. Our leader, MK Stalin, carried the Congress on his shoulders in the last parliament and assembly elections," he said.
