The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday named Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the Vice Presidential candidate of the NDA. His name was announced by party president in a media briefing after a parliamentary panel meeting.
The meeting was attended by BJP president JP Nadda, PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Nadda said that they will also talk to the opposition parties to ensure unopposed and unanimous election of the Vice President.
He said, "We will talk to the opposition as well. We should also get their support so that together we can ensure an unopposed election for the post of Vice President. As we said earlier, we have been in touch with them and our senior leaders have contacted them earlier as well and even now, we will remain in touch with them and all our NDA colleagues have supported us. CP Radhakrishnan is our NDA's candidate for Vice President."

Earlier in the day, Radhakrishnan visited Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai. The NDA parliamentary panel meeting is to be held on August 19 (Tuesday) and Radhakrishnan is expected to attend the meeting. The Election Commission had started the nomination process on August 7 and the last day for it is August 21.
Radhakrishnan is likely to file his nomination for the Vice President Election on August 21. All NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers have been summoned to Delhi for the nomination filing, as per a report by The Times of India.
The election for the Vice President's office was necessitated by the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. He tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on July 21, citing health reasons.
The Election Commission has announced to hold the elections on September 9. Radhakrishnan is set for a comfirtable victory as the ruling NDA alliance enjoys majority in the Electoral College, which comprises of all the MPs of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha
