Dehradun Builder Suicide: Businessmen Ajay Kumar Gupta and Anil Kumar Gupta, famously known as "Gupta brothers of South Africa", were arrested by police on Friday on charges of abetment of suicide after a prominent builder in Dehradun allegedly died by jumping from an under-construction building on the city's Rajpur Road. Satinder Singh Sawhney (52) has left behind a note addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, claiming he was under severe depression after threats and financial disputes with several businessmen, including the Gupta brothers from Africa.

Gupta Brothers' Connection With Former South African President

The Gupta brothers had extensive business ventures and lucrative contracts with South African government departments. Former South African President Jacob Zuma, who left office in 2028 after being dogged by corruption allegations made headlines globally. The Gupta brothers are said to have close links to Zuma.

Gupta Brothers' Connection With Uttarakhand

In the year 2018, Ajay Gupta was provided Z Plus security by the Uttarakhand government. The accused also has a house in Curzon Road area. As per sources, the house is built on about 25 bighas of land. The responsibility of managing the internal affairs rests with the elders and some special people of the Gupta brothers.

Son's Wedding Reception In Auli

The wedding reception of Ajay Gupta's son Suryakant was held in royal style in Auli in Chamoli district. Joshimath municipal administration had imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh on the Gupta brothers for leaving behind a trail of garbage in the eco-sensitive area.

Ajay Gupta's father Shiv Kumar lived with his wife in Rani Bazar of Saharanpur and ran a ration shop. After the death of Shiv Kumar in 1994, Ajay Gupta went to Delhi with the intention of becoming a chartered accountant (CA).
