Delhi Double Murder Update: A woman and a six-month-old child were killed in Delhi’s ‘Majnu Ka Tila’ by a 24-year-old man named Nikhil on Tuesday afternoon. The accused was identified as the woman’s ex. Nikhil, who is a native of Uttarakhand, was traced in Haldwani on Wednesday after police searched for him in multiple cities.
Nikhil killed his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend and a six-month-old girl, who was her friend, Rashmi’s daughter.
Nikhil entered the house when Sonal was alone at Rahmi and Durgesh's residence with the couple’s six-month-old daughter as they went to pick their elder daughter from school.
According to the police, the fight turned violent, after a confrontation between the couple, and Nikhil allegedly slit Sonal's throat using the blade. After killing Sonal, Nikhil turned his attention to the infant and killed the child in an act of revenge for the abortion of his own unborn child.
According to the toddler's uncle Ravi, "He put strips of tape on the mouths of the woman and the child to ensure that nobody heard their cries. He then slit the woman's throat and beheaded the child," news agency PTI reported.
Nikhil- Sonal Relationship
Nikhil and Sonal came into contact in 2023 in Haldwani and started living together soon after, as the couple entered a relationship. The couple decided to abort the child after Sonal became pregnant later that year. According to police, the couple, then unmarried and financially struggling, did not want to raise the child.
The couple sold the baby in early 2024 for 2 lakh rupees to an unknown party in Almorah as soon as it was born, as their attempt at abortion did not succeed.
The couple later shifted to Delhi, first in Wazirabad and later to ‘Majnu ka Tila’. During their time in Delhi, Sonal came into contact with a local resident, Rashmi and later moved in after they became friends. Sonal also called off her relationship with Nikhil over frequent fights.
Nikhil became suspicious of Sonal’s affair with Rashmi’s husband and confronted her several times, as he discovered WhatsApp chats between the two, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia.
During this period, Sonal became pregnant for the second time, and Nikhil wanted to keep the baby, as he was looking forward to settling down with her. But Sonal chose to terminate the pregnancy without informing him. Nikhil later claimed he believed the abortion was done at Durgesh's (Rashmi’s husband) behest.
