Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail News: As the construction work of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) between Sahibabad and Sarai Kale Khan is progressing rapidly, the 14-kilometre Delhi track of the 82-kilometre-long RapidX corridor may become operational ahead of scheduled time. Despite the delay caused in the 17-kilometre priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated on October 20, 2023, the project's other phases are in full swing.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) officials said that the Anand Vihar underground station has been linked to the elevated section of the corridor. The station is connected to New Ashok Nagar via a ramp at Khichripur and to Sahibabad via another ramp at Vaishali. Both the ramps have been completed and the track laying and overhead electrification (OHE) work will start soon.
Namo Bharat trains that depart from the elevated station at New Ashok Nagar will travel a short distance before entering a tunnel through the Khichripur ramp. This tunnel is about three km long and leads to Anand Vihar station. From there, the train will enter another tunnel towards Ghaziabad, which is about two km long. After exiting this tunnel, the train will get on the elevated track from the ramp near Vaishali metro station and arrive at Sahibabad.
Officials said that the track will be nearly finished in six months and its trial will begin in eight months. Sources indicate that the Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 2025 and the central government is likely to approve the Delhi stretch of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS in January.

Chief Public Relations Officer of NCRTC Puneet Vats stated that the Delhi section of the Delhi-Meerut corridor will be completed in six months. He added that the trial of the corridor will start in September-October. “Our goal is to make the Delhi section operational by the first quarter of 2025, which is likely to be by March. However, it could be launched a bit sooner,’’ PRO NCRTC said.
