Operation Aaghat: Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the Delhi Police have arrested over 150 accused in the South East district during a special drive named Operation Aaghat. The officials stated that the overnight operation was conducted to curb crime and maintain law and order in the national capital. They further stated that extensive checking was conducted at several places, adding that hundreds of accused were questioned for details. The police also recovered illegal items, including weapons, liquor, and documents, during the operation. Earlier last week, the Delhi police stated that all the necessary steps are being taken to ensure law and order during the festivals and New Year.

Over 200 Accused Arrested

While providing details, the police stated that at least 285 accused were arrested at several vulnerable locations under various laws, including provisions of the Arms Act, the Excise Act, the NDPS Act, and the Gambling Act. They further stated that 504 other suspected individuals were also detained in the district to ensure peaceful New Year celebrations.

Illegal Items Seized

The Delhi Police also seized several illegal items during the operation, including 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives. The police further informed that 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor were seized, adding that over 6 kg of ganja was also recovered. Apart from this, the police also recovered Rs 2.3 lakh in cash and over 300 mobile phones that had been reported seized or lost.

Vehicles Recovered

The Delhi police also arrested five auto-lifters to ensure that the commuters were not troubled during the festival seasons. The authority seized over 200 two-wheelers and a four-wheeler during the key operation. Apart from this, the authority also rounded up over a thousand individuals under preventive measures to maintain the law and order.
