Delhi News: The Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) in Delhi is making strides, with two stations—Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar—already operational. Work is progressing on a third station, Sarai Kale Khan, which is expected to be completed by June.
According to officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a total of 14 kilometres of tracks are being laid between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan, with over 10 kilometres already completed. The remaining track-laying work is currently underway. In addition, overhead electrical works, including masts and cables, are being installed between these two stations.
According to a Times Of India report, the Sarai Kale Khan station is taking shape, with ongoing work on its blue and beige facade, including the roof. This station will feature dedicated parking and is also seeing construction on entry and exit structures, along with a pick-and-drop zone.
As one of the key stations in the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, Sarai Kale Khan will be the largest on the route, equipped with six platforms and four tracks for Namo Bharat trains. It will also serve as a hub for three corridors—Delhi-Panipat, Delhi-SNB-Alwar and Delhi-Meerut—allowing passengers to switch between corridors without needing to change trains.
Additionally, a skywalk is being developed to connect the Sarai Kale Khan station with Nizamuddin railway station and Ring Road, facilitating access to Ashram. This skywalk will be conveniently located near the ISBT, Delhi Metro, city bus stand and Bansera Park road, enhancing pedestrian access.
Moreover, a new 13-kilometre section of the RRTS from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar via Anand Vihar became operational on January 5. With this addition, 55 kilometres of the 82-kilometre Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor are now operational, with the entire corridor anticipated to be completed by June.
