Delhi Temperature: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Wednesday's minimum temperature in Delhi was 25.6 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees above average, making it the hottest April night in three years. Since summer has arrived and is intensifying into heatwaves, temperatures in Delhi and other Indian cities have been rising.
"Yesterday, warm night conditions were observed only at Palam. Today, they have been recorded at all five synoptic stations," the IMD said.
According to the meteorological service, the lowest temperature in April 2024 and 2023 did not reach 25 degrees Celsius, however, the previous highest minimum temperature was recorded in 2022 when the mercury settled at 26.2 degrees Celsius on a day in April.
On Wednesday, April 9, the IMD forecasted a partly overcast sky and issued a yellow advisory for heatwave conditions in Delhi, with a maximum temperature of about 40 degrees Celsius.
Delhi AQI Today
The Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 am was 233, indicating that Delhi's overall air quality was in a poor category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between zero and 50 is deemed 'excellent', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
Heatwave Grips North, Central India
Temperatures in Rajasthan's Barmer region reached a blistering 46.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday as part of a sweltering heatwave that has been spreading across numerous northern, central, and western Indian states.
In the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, 27 stations registered temperatures of 43 degrees Celsius or above on Tuesday, according to the IMD. Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions were recorded in at least 19 of them.
