BJP on Monday launched an attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly flying to Vietnam for New Year celebrations just a few days after the death of former prime minister and a Congress veteran, Manmohan Singh. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claimed that the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha flew to Vietnam while the whole nation was mourning the former prime minister's death.

“While the country is mourning Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s demise, Rahul Gandhi has flown to Vietnam to ring in the New Year," Malviya claimed in a post on X. He further accused the Congress and its former chief, Rahul Gandhi, of doing "cheap politics" over the death of Manmohan Singh. He even emphasised that the grand old party had always disrespected Sikhs.

“The Gandhis and the Congress hate the Sikhs. Never forget that Indira Gandhi desecrated the Darbar Sahib," Malviya added. Earlier on Saturday, the saffron party slammed the Gandhi family for not being present while the remains of Manmohan Singh were collected. They also questioned the absence of the family while the remains were immersed in the Yamuna River in Delhi.

However, the Congress stated that Rahul Gandhi was on a private trip and no one should be asking questions regarding the personal affairs of the politician. Congress MP Manickam Tagore said that the BJP was trying to deviate the issue by questioning the private tour of Rahul Gandhi. “When will the Sanghis stop this ‘Take Diversion’ politics? The way Modi denied Dr. Saheb a place for cremation on the Yamuna banks and how his ministers cornered Dr. Saheb’s family is shameful. If Mr Gandhi travels privately, why does it bother you? Get well in the New Year," Tagore said.

A huge political row started when the grand old party blamed the central government for disrespecting the former prime minister. However, the BJP claimed that the Congress never respected Manmohan Singh and the party had imposed a "super PM" while he was the prime minister of the country.
