Vijayadashmi 2024 will be celebrated on Saturday across India. Every year on this day, the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarna, and Meghnath are burnt in several states, with people gathering in large numbers to witness it. The size of the effigies differs from place to place. This year, a 75-foot tall Ravana, the tallest Ravana effigy will be burned in Varanasi.

In Ramnagar's Ramleela, a 65-feet effigy will be burned, and in Maldahiya, a 40-foot effigy will be burned. The special fireworks that will accompany the burning of the Ravana effigy in Maldahiya have been brought in from Nalanda, Bihar.

In the sports field of Bareka, all the effigies will be placed with the help of a crane on October 11. The effigy of Ravana will be 75 feet tall, Kumbhkarna's effigy will be 65 feet tall, and Meghnath's effigy will be 55 feet tall. Nearly a dozen artisans, including the family members of Shamshad Khan from Madua Dih, have been working on their construction since August 20.

The construction of the effigies involves 150 bamboo poles, 120 kilograms of jute, 200 kilograms of paper, 100 kilograms of flour, and 200 cotton sarees, along with 100 liters of distemper, 50 kilograms of twine, and 8 liters of thinner. In addition, this time, a golden Lanka is also being constructed, which will be set on fire at the time of Ravana's effigy burning. A fireworks display will accompany the effigies and will last for one hour.

In the world-famous Ramleela of Ramnagar, the effigy of Ravana will be burned on Saturday night at 10:25 PM in Lanka Maidan. Raju Khan, who is involved in the construction of the effigy, stated that every year, the effigy of Ravana is made 60 feet tall and 30 feet wide. It is constructed using bamboo strips and tied with American nylon rope and is covered with colored paper and foil.

The center of the effigy is filled with cotton, which is set on fire with diesel after Shri Ram shoots his arrow. Additionally, a 55-foot tall effigy of Kumbhkarna and a 50-foot tall effigy of Meghnath are also made here. In Ramnagar, there is no tradition of burning the effigies of Kumbhkarna and Meghnath; instead, after the arrow will be shot, the effigies representing their deaths are simply knocked down.
