DUSU Election Results 2023: RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won three out of the four central panel posts of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU). Meanwhile, Congress-affiliated NSUI candidate Abhi Dahiya bagged the post of DUSU Vice President. The students' union election results were declared hours after the counting of votes commenced on Saturday morning. The DUSU Elections, polling for which was conducted on Friday, were held after a gap of three years.

Polling for the four key DUSU posts was held at 52 colleges and departments with the help of electronic voting machines (EVMs). Meanwhile, the voting for college unions was held through paper ballots. The ABVP and the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the students' wing of the Congress party, remained the frontrunners till the completion of the latest round of counting.

The ABVP, NSUI, CPI(M)-affiliated Students' Federation of India (SFI), and the CPI(ML)-Liberation-backed All India Students' Association (AISA) had fielded candidates on all four central posts.

Congratulating the ABVP for its performance and taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju wrote on X (formerly Twitter) "[ABVP] sweeps [DUSU] Rahul Gandhi campaigned in Delhi University Students Union Election which helped ABVP to increase it's vote share! Congratulations to all the Winning Candidates of ABVP, it's cadres as well as all the wishers!"

According to chief election officer Chander Shekhar, the election recorded a voter turnout of 42 per cent. This year, nearly one lakh Delhi University students were eligible to vote in the elections. DUSU elections were last conducted in 2019. The Covid-19 pandemic prevented elections in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, DUSU elections were not held in view of a congested academic calendar.

The turnout for the DUSU election fared marginally better this year in comparison to 2019 when 39.90 per cent of eligible voters turned up at the polling centres on voting day. Last time, the ABVP bagged three out of the four central panel positions of DUSU.
