Farmers Rail Blockade In Punjab Today: Punjab farmers' organisation, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, has announced a statewide "rail roko" protest on Friday, December 5, from 1 to 3 pm. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the peaceful protest is focused on repealing the central government's proposed Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and other farmer issues. However, the state government had police raided the homes of some of their leaders and placed some of them under house arrest before the peaceful protest.

Amidst the farmers' protest going to take place today, Shaan-e-Punjab, Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi, Tata Express, Flying Mail and some local DMUs running between Amritsar and Delhi will be affected.

Allegations Of Police Raids And Repression

Sarwan Singh Pandher has alleged that since last night, the Bhagwant Mann government has started raiding the houses of farmer leaders, in which the residences of the leaders were raided in many districts including Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Ropar, Patiala, jagran.com reported.

The Morcha alleges that no trains are scheduled on 80 per cent of the tracks during the two-hour rail blockade. Only a few trains on the main lines may be affected, yet the government is bent on forcibly stopping the trains. In Amritsar and Gurdaspur, police raided the homes of farmer leaders Paramjit Singh Bhullar, Jagdeep Singh Jaggi, Kuldeep Singh Tahli, Bibi Harjit Kaur Gurdaspur, Nishan Singh Mehade, and Harpal Singh Pathankot.

The farmers' organisation states that the main demands of the farmers' organisations are the complete withdrawal of the Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025, the elimination of prepaid/smart meters, and the restoration of the old metering system. Farmer leaders allege that the proposed law and state government policies pave the way for the privatisation of electricity boards and the forced sale of public assets, which will place additional burdens on farmers, laborers, and ordinary consumers.
