Gujarat: A 25-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Aruna Natu Jadav, was allegedly killed by her live-in partner, Dilip Jadav, a CRPF jawan, following an argument late Friday night in Anjar, Kutch. The incident came to light on Saturday morning when Dilip walked into the Anjar Police Station, where Aruna was posted, and surrendered, according to a report by The Indian Express.
"In the heat of an argument, Jadav throttled Aruna to death. After realising what he had done, he attempted suicide but survived and surrendered Saturday," police said.
Police have recovered the body and the accused is in custody. "We are probing the sequence of events ," police said.
On the night of the incident, Aruna Jadav and the accused, Dileep Dangachiya, were at their shared residence in Anjar. After a heated argument, Dangachiya allegedly strangled her to death, according to the report.
In a statement on Saturday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of Anjar Division, Mukesh Chaudhary, said, “Aruna and Dileep came in contact in 2021 through Instagram. They were in a live-in relationship. They had a fight at 10 pm on Friday night. He strangled her to death.”
Chaudhary confirmed that on Saturday, Dileep Dangachiya walked into the Anjar Police Station, where Aruna Jadav was posted, and surrendered to the officer on duty. The police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his live-in partner by slitting her throat last month after she refused his proposal for marriage. The accused, Samshuddin Mohammed Hafiz, was taken into custody by the Mira Road police on June 14.
According to police, Hafiz worked as a chef at a five-star hotel in Mumbai, while the victim, 19-year-old Kareena Ali, was employed as a singer at a bar in Dahisar.
The couple had reportedly been in a dispute over marriage, with Kareena expressing a desire to focus on her career before making any long-term commitments.
Kareena’s brother, Imran Ali, told police, “They were planning to get married soon, but my sister said that she wanted to earn money first and then get married.” He added that the couple had been together for two years and had been living in a MHADA flat for the past year.
Imran stated that the couple had been involved in frequent arguments in the days leading up to the incident.
According to reports, Hafiz had accused Kareena of infidelity and threatened to leave her. When Kareena did not respond to his accusations, he left the house, only to return a few hours later. Imran and his cousin allegedly witnessed Hafiz physically assaulting Kareena and intervened to stop him.
Hafiz, however, turned aggressive and attacked them as well. In the scuffle, he pulled out a knife, slit Kareena’s throat, and fled the scene. Imran immediately rushed his sister to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. He later reported the matter to the Mira Road police.
Hafiz was subsequently arrested and booked under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
