Ludhiana Wedding Shooting: A high-profile, posh wedding in Ludhiana turned into a nightmare after gunshots were exchanged between two rival groups on Sunday. The family that came to witness a wedding is still in shock as 32-year-old Vasu Chopra was shot dead in a volley of gunfire while protecting his wife and three-year-old son.

The incident occurred in the presence of several VIP guests, including politicians and an MLA, when two rival groups clashed inside the wedding venue. Nearly 30 rounds were fired.

Parul Malhotra, a local Congress functionary and Vasu’ brother in-law said, "Those criminals were firing gunshots brazenly, without any fear, and people were running for their lives," adding, “My sister lost her husband. They have two little kids. Vasu lost his father a year ago, and he was the sole earning member.” He stated that he saw "at least 30 spent bullet shells" inside the venue.

According to those present in the hall, Vasu and his family were having dinner when gunshots began. Vasu immediately held his son in his arms and grabbed his wife’s hand, and walked towards the hall while acting as a shield for his family. Vasu was fired at in the stomach and died on the spot.

Those killed during the violent clash include the groom’s aunt, Neeru Chhabran, who was also shot in the face and died on the spot.

‘Not A Gang War: Ludhiana Police Commissioner

As per Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, it ‘wasn't a gang war’ but a ‘fight between local boys for supremacy’.

Police Arrest Local Rowdies, Security Guards

Shubham Arora alias Mota, considered the main shooter in the recent murder case, has 18 FIRs against him, including charges of attempted murder. His rivals in the rival gang, containing Ankur, Rubal and Jasvir Singh alias Jassa, have fewer cases but are also booked under serious sections, including attempted murder.

On Monday, Delhi Police arrested Ankur along with four associates who were allegedly giving him shelter after the crime. The hunt for the remaining shooters continues.

Three private security guards at the venue were also taken into custody for allowing armed people to enter.
