New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Telangana Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali on Friday sparked a controversy with his comments over the 26-year-old veterinarian, whose charred body was found near Shadnagar town in Hyderabad. The minister said that the unholy incident could be averted if the vet called up the police instead of her sister for help.

"We are saddened by the incident, the police is alert and controlling crime. She was an educated woman, and yet she called her sister instead of 100. Had she called 100, she would have been saved. 100 is a friendship number, and we have to spread awareness on this among the people," Telangana Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali told news agency ANI.

The minister also said that Telangana’s police force is the most efficient in the country and assured that the culprits will be identified and will be punished at the earliest.

The 26-year-old veterinarian had gone missing on Wednesday, while she was returning home from work. During the investigations, it was revealed that on her way back, she stopped near the Shamshabad toll booth and parked her vehicle there. She later took a cab to visit a dermatologist. When she returned back to her parked vehicle at around 9 pm, she found her two-wheeler punctured.

The deceased vet last called her sister at around 9:15 pm on Wednesday night and told her that she was stranded due to the punctured tires. The call recording also suggests that she was feeling scared due to the suspicious behaviour of some truck drivers nearby.

The police believe that she was raped before being murdered and burnt. However, the police have arrested two persons and is interrogating them to get further details in the incident.

Telangana Director General of Police Mahendar Reddy called the murder "gruesome and atrocious", and promised to ensure strict punishment for the culprits. "Deeply pained and anguished. Telangana police will do everything possible to catch the offenders at the earliest and get them convicted through a fast-track court. Anyone, anytime, anywhere in distress, please dial 100," he said in a tweet.
