In good news for sugarcane farmers in Haryana, the government on Sunday made a major announcement on the auspicious occasion of Chhoti Diwali, increasing the rate of the crop by Rs 15.
The Nayab Singh Saini-led government has increased the rate of early-ripening sugarcane has been raised from 400 rupees per quintal to 415 rupees per quintal, while the rate for late-ripening sugarcane has been increased from 393 rupees per quintal to 408 rupees per quintal.
By raising sugarcane prices by Rs 15 per quintal, Haryana has become the state with the highest sugarcane rate in the country. Last November, the Punjab government had increased the price by Rs 1 more than the Haryana government, to Rs 401 per quintal for sugarcane farmers in its state.
In Uttar Pradesh, farmers are receiving Rs 350 per quintal, and in Uttarakhand, Rs 355 per quintal. In Bihar, farmers are paid ₹365 per quintal for sugarcane.

Except for last year, Haryana has consistently paid the highest prices to its sugarcane farmers in the country, compared to other states. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has approved a proposal to increase sugarcane prices.
On October 17, the BJP government completed one year of its third term. At that time, the Chief Minister had increased the social security pension from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,200 per month.
This is the second major decision taken by the government within three days, as a Diwali gift that will benefit the people in the state.
Sugar mills in the state will start the crushing season in November. Last year, the state produced 8.86 million tons of sugarcane. Haryana has a total of 14 sugar mills, including 11 cooperative and three private sector sugar mills.

The average yield from one quintal of sugarcane is nine and a half kilograms of sugar. Cooperative Minister Dr Arvind Sharma has set sugar mills targets to increase sugar production during sugarcane crushing. He also stated that sugarcane farmers should not face any problems in receiving their payments. The central government has set a Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of Rs 355 per quintal for the 2025-26 season.
