State Bureau, Shimla: The next 48 hours could be critical in Himachal Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in many districts of the state on Wednesday and Thursday. An orange alert has been declared for Sirmaur district on Wednesday, while a yellow alert has been issued in many districts including Chamba, Kullu, Solan.
The administration has appealed to the people to stay away from rivers, streams, ravines and landslide-prone areas and to avoid unnecessary travel.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Chamba, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, and Kangra districts on Thursday, July 30. A yellow alert has also been
Administrations in districts with an orange alert have been instructed to exercise special vigilance. Travel is advised against during the orange alert.
Similar Conditions To Continue Till August 3
The monsoon will remain active in the state until August 3. A yellow alert will be in effect in most districts from July 31 to August 3. Heavy rain is expected again in Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, and Shimla districts on August 1.
Rainfall Remains Below Normal
The state has received less than normal rainfall during the monsoon season so far. Between June 1 and July 28, the state recorded 310.3 mm of rainfall, which is below normal, compared to the normal 330.9 mm. While some districts have also recorded above-normal rainfall, many districts are still experiencing a rainfall deficit.
