How Ketan Agarwal's Death Went From Accident To Premeditated Murder: 5 Turning Points

Ketan Agarwal Murder: The Ketan Agarwal death case came to light after his fiancée, Siya Goyal, claimed that he fell from the cliff of Lohagad Fort, near Lonavala, 66 km away from Pune, while clicking a photo on June 18. Believing Siya's claim, family members initially thought it was an accident, but later on, it appeared to be a well-planned, premeditated murder, sending a shock wave across the country. Just a few months ago, they got engaged, and their wedding was scheduled for November.

What Was The Motive Of Murder?

According to police, Siya and her lover, Chetan, wanted to permanently close Ketan's chapter so that they could get married. The duo decided to kill Ketan instead of eloping because they feared that elopement would bring disrepute to their families. Police said the duo confessed to their crime. Police said the accused had taken Ketan to Lohagad Fort twice and tried to kill him, but the plan failed each time, which means it was not a prompt decision to kill Ketan.

"Initially, both tried to shift the blame onto each other, which is a common tendency among criminals during interrogation. However, Siya eventually admitted that she hatched the conspiracy and Chetan was also involved in the planning," said a police official who is part of the probe into the murder.

Here Are The Five Turning Points In The Case:

1. Sister's Suspicion: The case was seen as an accident until Ketan's sister, Sanjana, doubted Siya's version of the incident. When Siya met Ketan's family members after the funeral, Sanjana attempted to delve into exactly what happened on June 18. Siya gave inconsistent answers to her questions, after which the family urged police officials to probe the case from a different angle as well. Right from there, the nature of the case has changed.

2. Hoodie Man's Entry: The biggest breakthrough emerged when police spotted a doubtful movement of a mysterious man wearing a hoodie in the hot weather in CCTV footage. Further probe led the police to crack the case as the hoodie man appeared to be Siya's alleged boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, a Pune-based businessman.

3. Phone Call Records: As the police furthered the probe by suspecting Siya as the main accused, the investigating officials found a link with Chetan. Police found that the duo exchanged over 2,004 phone calls and spoke for 238 hours in the last six months.

4. CCTV Evidence: Another key turning point of the case came after police found the CCTV footage in which Chetan and Siya were seen entering a coffee house in Pune and discussing something (probably the method of murder) for an hour on June 17, the day before the murder.

5. Blackmail: The duo confessed to their crime, yet police are investigating the blackmail angle. They are investigating whether Chetan used recordings of their phone conversations and private messages to blackmail Siya, forcing her to conspire to kill Ketan.
