The Opposition INDIA bloc is likely to bring a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar under Article 67(b) of the Indian Constitution, according to ANI. The motion has reportedly garnered approximately 70 signatures from MPs representing various parties within the bloc, as reported by India Today. The INDIA bloc has accused Dhankhar of “partisan functioning.”

This move comes after growing dissatisfaction among opposition leaders over Dhankhar's handling of proceedings in the Rajya Sabha. Various members of the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Samajwadi Party (SP), and other constituents of the INDIA bloc are reportedly united in their decision to advance the motion.

During the Budget Session of Parliament, MPs from opposition parties expressed concerns that they're not getting enough time and space to share their views in the Rajya Sabha.

Earlier on Monday, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned amid uproar over allegations by the BJP that top Congress leaders were colluding with billionaire investor George Soros to destabilize the country. Vice President Dhankhar said that some powerful people can harm the country more than the Covid virus.

Later, amidst continued disruptions from both treasury and opposition benches, the Upper House proceeded at 3 pm after three adjournments. Dhankhar informed members that a meeting had been held in his chamber between the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition.

“The purpose of that meeting was to ensure that the House runs smoothly. Both sides had a frank discussion and they signalled two things. One, that integrity, and sovereignty of the nation are sacred for us. We cannot allow any forces within the country or outside to sacrilege our unity, our integrity and our sovereignty," said Dhankhar.

The Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar then appealed to all members to honor their constitutional oath and prioritize the nation's integrity.
