Karnataka Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put multiple Karnataka districts on alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and squalls till May 18, Sunday. A yellow alert has been issued for Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshin Kannada. The alerts are in place for Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka districts. The weather is expected to be unstable leading to traffic snarls and waterlogging at places. Bengaluru is expected to witness cloudy conditions with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on May 16, Friday. Similar conditons are likely to prevail over the next few days. The weather body has, however, issued no warnings from May 19 to May 21.
“The upper air cyclonic circulation over Konkan and its neighbourhood now lies over North Interior Karnataka & neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level,” said IMD, Bengaluru in its bulletin.
“The upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining Tamil Nadu coast now lies over north coastal Tamil Nadu & neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level,” IMD, Bengaluru added.

May 16: Heavy rain /thundershowers with Gusty winds (50-60 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Bagalkot, Bidar, Kalburgi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir districts.
Moderate rain/thundershowers with Gusty winds (50-60 kmph) are likely to occur at most places over Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri districts.
May 17: Heavy rain /thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Bagalkot, Bidar, Kalburgi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir districts.
Moderate rain/thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at many places over Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri districts.
May 18: Heavy rain /thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Vijayapura districts.
Moderate rain/Thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at most places over Bidar, Kalburgi, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir districts.
South Interior Karnataka
May 16: Heavy rain /thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Ballari, Bengaluru (Rural), Bengaluru (Urban), Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara districts.
Moderate rain/thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at most places over Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Shivamogga and districts.
May 17: Heavy rain /thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Ballari, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Mysuru districts.
Moderate rain/thundershowers with Gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at most places over Bengaluru (Rural), Bengaluru (Urban), Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara districts.
