Kerala Weather Update: The monsoon activity in Kerala is currently on a surge, with the state bracing for isolated heavy rainfall on Friday. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in six districts of Kerala for isolated rainfall today.
Kerala Weather Today
The Central Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for six districts in Kerala, warning of isolated heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The affected districts include:
- Idukki
- Thrissur
- Malappuram
- Wayanad
- Kannur
- Kasaragod
Heavy rainfall is defined as precipitation ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
In the next few hours, isolated places in Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts may experience light rain and strong winds with speeds of up to 40 kmph. The strong wind is likely over the central west Arabian Sea, southwest Arabian Sea and northwest Arabian Sea. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts today.
The State Disaster Management Department has informed that there is a possibility of accidents due to uprooting of trees and breaking of branches in strong winds.
The National Oceanographic Research Centre (NORC) has informed that there is a possibility of sea erosion along the Kanyakumari coast (from Neerodi to Arogyapuram) due to waves rising to 1.3 to 1.7 meters till 08.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents should be alert, as there is a possibility of sea erosion.
Kerala Weather Forecast
There will be no weather warning in the state from tomorrow, with no disruption to fishing in coastal areas. The weather forecast indicates that strong winds with speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph, are likely to prevail over the following areas: like South Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, the Kanyakumari region, Southwest Bay of Bengal from Friday to Monday.
