In fresh information in Pune's Ketan Agarwal murder case, the accused fiancée Siya Goyal might have planned an accident-looking killing to secure a three-year time before she could marry co-accused Chetan Choudhary.
According to sources cited by Jagran.com, Chetan wanted to build his career and settle down before marrying, and therefore, he had asked Siya to wait for three years.
However, her marriage to Ketan was finalised and was to take place in November this year. The report suggests that to buy more time, they conspired to push Ketan into the gorge at Lihagad Fort near Pune's Lonavala and pass it off as an accidental death.
Siya thought grief would delay next wedding
They were of the view that due to family grief, Siya's marriage would be postponed for the next few years. The report also states that the investigation has revealed that Siya and Chetan started plotting Ketan's murder as early as February of this year, when the two were engaged.
According to the officials, Siya and Chetan had browsed Google to find out ways to kill her fiancé. They even visited the crime scene before the murder to rehearse their plan. The accused had also prepared and practised their responses for the police during the investigation.
To avoid suspicion, they had planned to disguise themselves during the murder. The reports also suggest that both the accused had cleared their phone's entire chat history before and after and before the crime.
Their phones have been sent to a forensic lab to retrieve the deleted chat logs.
Siya admits killing Ketan was easier than facing family
According to Pune Rural Police sources cited in a Marathi Jagran report, Siya has confessed during interrogation that she found it easier to kill Ketan Agarwal than to face his family and cancel the wedding scheduled for November.
Ketan was allegedly killed on June 18 by Siya and Chetan, who had alleged that he died after slipping off the cliff while taking pictures. Ketan's body was recovered after three days. The police had registered a case of accidental death, but investigations, especially CCTV footage from the site, soon turned the case probe to uncover a well-planned murder conspiracy.
