Madhya Pradesh News: Tension gripped Shamgarh city in Madhya Pradesh on Friday after a shocking case involving blackmail and the circulation of an obscene video of a 16-year-old girl surfaced. An obscene video of the victim was circulated online, triggering widespread anger among residents.

In response, authorities imposed a near-complete shutdown and deployed heavy police personnel to prevent unrest.

What Was The Incident That Led To Public Outrage In Shamgarh?

According to a report by NDTV, the accused, identified as Rihan and Babu, entered the home of the minor girl on November 6 while her family was away. Rihan reportedly threatened the 16-year-old at knifepoint, forced her to record an obscene video using her mother’s phone, and transferred the footage to his own device.

Rihan then demanded Rs 5 lakh from the victim’s family, threatening that he would release the video online. The family managed to arrange Rs 2 lakh, which the accused collected. After attempts to extort the remaining amount failed, the accused allegedly made the video public on Thursday evening.

The circulation of the obscene video on social media sparked immediate outrage across Shamgarh, with hundreds of residents gathering at the Shamgarh police station on Thursday night, demanding action against the accused. The outrage escalated on Friday as Hindu organisations joined in, with shops closed, traffic halted, and public movement restricted in the city, the report added.

Police Arrests Accused Within 12 Hours Amid Public Outrage

The Municipal Council promptly took action against the homes of Rihan and Babu, disconnecting water connections and beginning property measurements as part of administrative proceedings.

The police registered cases against the accused under the sections of the Indian Penal Code related to extortion, intimidation, and criminal force, along with charges under the POCSO Act and the IT Act.

Speaking to news agency ANI, a police official said, “An obscene video of the girl was made, and money was demanded. When the money was not given, the video was made viral. A serious case was registered immediately. Multiple teams were deployed, and both accused were arrested within 12 hours. The ransom angle is under investigation.”

Despite the arrests, tensions continue to grip Shamgarh, with locals demanding the demolition of the accused’s houses and strict punishment. Many shops remain closed across the city, and a heavy police force has been deployed to maintain law and order and prevent unrest.
