Manipur Rocket Attack: At least five people including four militants were killed after militants fired two long-range rockets in the civilian population locations. One person was shot dead in his sleep while four others were killed in a subsequent exchange of fire between armed men of two warring communities in Jiribam district, a police officer was quoted as saying by PTI.
"Police teams and additional security forces have been rushed in to conduct combing operations in the hill ranges adjoining the area. 02 (two) bunkers at Mualsang village and 01 (one) bunker at Laika Mualsau village of Churachandpur (03 bunkers in total) were destroyed," Manipur police had said in a post on X on Saturday morning.
According to the officials, militants shot one dead after entering the house of the person who lived alone in an isolated location around 5 km from the district headquarters. After the killing, a heavy exchange of fire broke out between armed men of the warring communities in the hills around 7 km from the district headquarters, leading to the deaths of four armed persons, including three hills-based militants, a police official told PTI.

Earlier this week, fresh violence erupted in the district after suspected "village volunteers" burnt down an abandoned three-room house of a retired police officer at Jakuradhor in Borobekra police station.
Despite representatives of the Meitei and Hmar communities agreeing to stop violence and restore normalcy and "prevent incidents of arson and firing" in a meeting held at a CRPF facility in adjoining Assam's Cachar on August 1, Jibram saw fresh violence.
Many outside Jibram-based Hmar tribal bodies denounced the agreement citing unawareness about the agreement.
Senior officers, including the Inspector General of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police, have also inspected the areas to take immediate counter measures and supervise the volatile situation. A team of Mobile Forensic Unit, DFS, Manipur were at the site to collect evidence
