In a major development in the Twisha Sharma death case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe, with Twisha’s mother-in-law, former District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh, facing multiple questions from investigation officials during her five-day remand period.
Investigators are said to be investigating numerous issues, ranging from injury marks on Twisha's body to CCTV footage, WhatsApp chat history, family matters, allegations of harassment, and more.
CBI asks Giribala Singh questions on FIR allegations
Sources revealed that the agency showed Giribala Singh allegations mentioned in the FIR by Twisha's family, questioned her on the statements, and asked why her role shouldn't be seen as significant in the case, even as the complainant’s claims suggest otherwise.
Questions raised over injury marks
Ante-mortem injuries found on Twisha's body in post-mortem reports have been one of the major points for investigation officials. They are said to have asked the former judge about how the marks were inflicted and whether there was a common reason behind them.
Who was in the house at the time of death?
Further questions have been put before the former judge by the investigation agency on who was inside the house at the time of the crime, so that the agency could understand the movement of the individuals within the house.
Investigation officers are reviewing CCTV footage collected during the probe so that statements made by related individuals can be validated.
WhatsApp chat and call records scanned
Digital evidence, including WhatsApp chat history, call records, and others, is being scanned by the agency to understand more about the relationship between Twisha and her husband and in-laws, as well as to discover if there were any fights after her wedding with husband Samarth Singh.
Details related to pregnancy shared
Sources also revealed that the former judge was interrogated on whether family members were discussing Twisha's pregnancy, as per reports of her facing mental pressure on the matter.
During the interrogation, Samarth Singh revealed that he was shocked to discover Twisha's pregnancy. The two had been having sexual intercourse using birth control precautions. Singh felt that it was nearly impossible for Twisha to be pregnant with his baby. This suspicion further deteriorated their marital life.
Mentally and physically abused
The CBI is probing the allegations of mental and physical harassment against the family by the family of the deceased, to see if there is some solid proof for the charges.
Depression After Miscarriage Theory
During questioning, former District Judge Giribala Singh dismissed all allegations against her as completely baseless and fabricated. She proposed a new theory, claiming that Twisha fell into a state of severe depression after suffering a miscarriage, which may have led to her suicide.
CBI Verifying Medical and Forensic Evidence
The agency is not treating the depression claim as conclusive and is independently examining medical records, doctors' statements, and forensic evidence to verify the circumstances surrounding Twisha's death.
Forensic Examination, Video Clip
The CBI will also conduct a forensic examination of the belt that Twisha is said to have used to hang herself. Experts will test how much weight the belt could bear.
The Bhopal police had earlier created a 34-minute-long video of the entire incident, which acted as major evidence in the case. The video recording assisted the agency in understanding the actual situation at the scene and verifying several facts.
