A potential train accident was averted on Monday in Madhya Pradesh after the driver quickly stopped the train after spotting a tractor stalled on the tracks. The incident took place in Narmadapuram’s Guramkhedi on the Jabalpur-Itarsi rail route around 10 am, according to Gopal Meena, the in-charge of the Pipariya Railway Protection Force (RPF) police station.
“The driver of the Somnath Express immediately applied brakes after noticing a tractor obstructing the track. His quick response prevented a serious accident,” Meena was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
An RPF team swiftly removed the tractor from the tracks and efforts are currently underway to locate the tractor responsible for the incident.

The incident comes days after two coaches of the Indore-Jabalpur Overnight Express got derailed near Jabalpur Railway Station in Madhya Pradesh. The train was coming from Indore and was heading towards Jabalpur Railway Station's platform number six. The incident happened at around 150 metres from the platform. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.

In another incident that took place on Sunday, a passenger train hit an LPG cylinder placed on a stretch of railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district. The incident took place when Kalindi Express, travelling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani in Haryana, was passing through Kanpur's Shivrajpur area, the police said. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The accident was averted as the train's locomotive pilot spotted an LPG cylinder on the tracks, after which he applied the brakes. However, the train ended up hitting the cylinder before coming to a halt.
