Mukhtar Ansari Death: Dreaded gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari was laid to rest at the Kali Bagh cemetery in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur on Saturday, days after he breathed his last at a medical college in Banda district before succumbing to cardiac arrest.

Mukhtar has reportedly been buried next to his mother's grave. A heavy police presence was deployed in Ghazipur's Mohammadabad, where Mukhtar's residence is located, in view of the funeral ceremony.

Ahead of the funeral ceremony, Ghazipur District Magistrate Aryaka Akhoury said police were deployed along the route leading from Mukhtar's home to the graveyard in view of the funeral ceremony.

"The preparations are complete. Police have been deployed on a 600-metre route leading from his home to the graveyard. The movement of the people is being watched. The late rites would be concluded peacefully," the official stated.

A large number of people were seen attending the funeral procession of the mafia don. Chaos was reported amidst the funeral ceremony when several of Mukhtar's supporters tried to break through the barricades to enter the cemetery ground.

While attending the funeral ceremony, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ambika Chaudhary said, "We are here to take part in the funeral. Today, a messiah for the poor is going away."

Mukhtar died of a cardiac arrest on Thursday evening. His family alleged that he was "given poison in the food". An autopsy on the body was carried out by a five-doctor panel on Friday at a medical college in the Banda district.

Meanwhile, a judicial probe into the death was ordered by a Banda court. Mukhtar's mortal remains were brought to his Ghazipur residence late Friday night amid heavy police deployment.
