Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Update: Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday announced that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by August 15, 2027, with operations set to commence in phases.

The first section to become operational will be the Surat-Bilimora stretch, followed by Vapi-Surat, Vapi-Ahmedabad, Thane-Ahmedabad, and finally the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Vaishnaw said, “The bullet train will be ready in 2027 August 15th, 2027. The first section to open will be from Surat to Bilimora. After that, Vapi to Surat will open. Then Vapi to Ahmedabad will open, and after that, Thane to Ahmedabad will open, and then Mumbai to Ahmedabad will open.”

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: Check Route, Speed And More

- Spanning 508 kilometres, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is designed to operate trains at speeds up to 320 km/h, making it India’s first high-speed rail corridor.

- The high-speed rail corridor, connecting Sabarmati in Ahmedabad to Mumbai, is scheduled to open in phases. This means certain sections will become operational while construction will continue on the remaining stretches.

- Once fully operational, the high-speed train will reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just 2 hours and 7 minutes or 127 minutes.

- The project was launched in 2017 with an initial completion target of December 2023. However, the project faced delays due to land acquisition and other implementation issues.

Earlier, the inaugural run of the bullet train was planned on a 50 km stretch between Surat and Bilimora. Now, it will cover a longer 100 km stretch between Surat and Vapi on the inaugural run.

“The bullet train, in its inaugural run, will now cover 100 km between Surat and Vapi in August 2027. Earlier, the inaugural run was planned on a 50 km stretch between Surat and Billimora within the same deadline,” Vaishnaw added.
