Mumbai Police control room on Monday received a threat call on Monday regarding bombs planted at Taj Hotel and airport in the city. Searches were conducted following the call but nothing suspicious was found. The incident comes five days after the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Delhi's North Block received a bomb threat mail.
The incident comes in line with several similar instances that India has been witnessing for a while. Besides the threat mail at Delhi Home Ministry office, several schools and airports have received bomb hoax calls or mails recently.
Meanwhile, according to Mumbai police, the call originated from Uttar Pradesh and search for the caller is underway.
The increase in bomb threats at different places across the country comes as India witnesses the biggest democratic festival. While no links have been discovered among all these threats, the incidents have raised a concern amid the ongoing elections.
Earlier on May 1, over 100 schools in Delhi received bomb hoax emails, creating panic across the national capital. The Delhi police revealed that the email used to threaten the Delhi-NCR schools contained the word 'Swaraiim', which is an Arabic word used by the Islamic State since 2014 to spread Islamist propaganda.
On May 6, At least 14 schools in Gujarat's Ahmedabad received bomb threats via email just a day before the Prime Minister's visit for polling in the state. After a probe into the matter, the crime branch found a Pakistani link. The threatening emails, initially treated as rumors, were traced back to an individual known as Tohik Liyakat, who operated from Pakistan under the name Ahmed Javed.
