Mumbai News: Breaking traffic rules on Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu, will invite challans soon. Authorities are planning to implement an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) soon that will help the system to detect vehicles flouting traffic rules such as driving a car without wearing a seatbelt. The advanced technology of ITMS will be tested first, and be reviewed thoroughly to check its efficiency.
The state transport department will conduct the live testing possibly this week. The new system is designed to check vehicles that are running over the speed limit, among other violations. It can identify up to 15 types of violations, subsequently helping the MMRDA to impose a penalty, according to a report by The Indian Express.
Currently, the longest sea bridge of India that is 21.8 km (with 16 km over water), is already using cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology with high-quality AI-enabled cameras. These cameras work on pan-tilt-zoom basis, which gives the MMRDA a 360-degree view to detect even minor violations commuters cause on the sea bridge.

ITMS Features
The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), which cost Rs 520 crore to install, includes advanced features like CCTV surveillance, an under-bridge monitoring system, AI-based video analytics, emergency call boxes, section speed cameras, and speed displays triggered by vehicles.
This system is designed to greatly improve traffic control on the bridge. Strabag Austria has been given the responsibility for operations, maintenance, and toll collection for the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), according to the MMRDA.
Once ITMS testing is completed, all video footage from the control and monitoring centre at Chirle will be reviewed by Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials. Atal Setu has come to a great help for commuters as it slashed the travel time between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai by at least one hour.
