Mumbai Water Cut: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) imposed a 15 per cent water cut on Saturday and Sunday. December 14 and 15 in areas under its jurisdiction. The water supply cut has also been implemented in areas under the Thane and Bhiwandi Municipal Corporations. It is because the BMC supplies water to the affected areas. According to the officials, the cut was mandated due to some malfunction at the Pise sub-station. The malfunction took place around 1 am on Saturday. This led to the shutdown of six out of the 20 pumps at the BMC's Pise pumping station, disrupting the supplies.

Mumbai Water Cut: Repair Work Initiated

The BMC officials said the repair work were started on a war footing and will continue through Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, citizens are advised to make smart use of water.

"A malfunction occurred in the B-phase Current Transformer installed on Main Transformer No. 1 at the Pise Substation, resulting in the shutdown of six pumps at the Pise Pumping Station at 01:00 AM on 14th December 2024. To address this issue, repair works will be undertaken on 14th and 15th December 2024. Consequently, water supply to Mumbai, as well as the BMC water supply to Thane and Bhiwandi Municipal Corporations, will be affected during this period," siad the BMC.

It added, "15 per cent of reduction in water supply will be implemented for Mumbai, Thane, and Bhiwandi Municipal Corporations on 14th and 15th December 2024. Residents are urged to use water judiciously and cooperate with the municipal administration during this time."
