Jhansi Woman Murder Case: The life of a 35-year-old woman, Anita Chaudhary, who shot the fame after becoming the first female auto-rickshaw driver in Jhansi, ended on a sad note. She died under suspicious circumstances after her vehicle overturned in the Station Road area on Monday. Now, the police investigation found that she was murdered and there was a love affair angle in the story. Days after her murder, police arrested her lover with the post-mortem report revealing that she was shot at.

While preliminary investigation suggests an accident, the family of the deceased has alleged that she was murdered during a robbery, they said. Circle Officer (City) Laxmikant Gautam said the police received information via the Dial-112 helpline after midnight on Sunday regarding an overturned auto-rickshaw.

Accused Stages Road Accident After Killing Woman

"Prima facie, it appears to be a road accident, but the family has raised certain suspicions. An investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken if any foul play is found," the police officer said. The family members claimed that Anita's jewellery and mobile phone were missing from the spot. They alleged that the circumstances point towards a planned murder than a simple accident, noting that she had personal disputes with several people. The police said the victim had been driving an auto-rickshaw in the city for the last five years.

What Have Police Said On Her Murder?

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Jhansi, BBGTS Murthy, said that at around 2:30 am (intervening night of Sunday and Monday), the control room received information about an accident and the death of its driver after being crushed under the vehicle.

Police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The deceased was identified as Anita, wife of Dwarka Chaudhary. Anita's husband filed a complaint against three people, accusing them of murder.

The post-mortem report on Saturday revealed that Anita was shot dead, police said. Following an investigation based on the complaint, the accused were identified as Mukesh Jha (37), his son, Shivam (18) and his brother-in-law, Manoj (35).

Main Accused And Victim Were In Touch For 7 Years

The main accused, Mukesh Jha, was in contact with the deceased for the last 6-7 years. Police announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information regarding the whereabouts of the main accused, Mukesh Jha, who was on the run. There was some dispute between them, which probably led to her murder.

On Friday night, based on a tip-off, the police attempted to arrest Mukesh, who was trying to escape and opened fire at the police. In the retaliatory firing, Mukesh was shot in the right leg and was subsequently arrested and sent to the medical college for treatment.

Feeling Of Betrayal Led To Murder Of Woman

According to police, during questioning, the accused confessed that he killed Anita because he felt betrayed in love. The police are conducting a detailed investigation into the matter, Superintendent of Police (City) Preeti Singh said.
