BRICS Summit 2026: New Delhi is all set to host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13, with preparations in full swing. With heads of state, foreign delegations, and other high-profile dignitaries expected to attend, tight security and traffic restrictions will be in place across several parts of the national capital starting Friday, a day before the event begins.

Here is what will remain open and what will be closed in Delhi during the summit:

What Will Remain Open?

Banks

Banks in Delhi will remain open on September 11, as the date is not listed as a bank holiday in the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar.

Private Offices

Private offices will function as usual. However, employees travelling through central Delhi and areas affected by VVIP movement should expect traffic diversions, restrictions, and delays.

Delhi Metro

Metro services will remain operational across the entire network during the summit. However, the Delhi Metro Museum at the Supreme Court Metro station will be closed from September 11 to 13.

What Will Remain Closed?

Schools

All government, government-aided, and recognised unaided private schools under the Delhi Directorate of Education will remain closed on Friday, September 11, in view of the BRICS summit.

Government Offices

Additionally, all Delhi government offices, autonomous bodies, and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the NCT of Delhi will be closed, as the Lieutenant Governor has declared September 11 a public holiday.

Traffic Restrictions

The Delhi Traffic Police has prepared a detailed traffic management plan for the summit. Traffic will be regulated at 22 identified diversion points during motorcade rehearsals and VVIP movements. More than 35 roads are expected to be affected, including Mathura Road, Sardar Patel Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, and APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

These restrictions will begin on September 10 and continue until around September 14, with traffic being diverted or temporarily halted depending on VVIP movements and security requirements.
