The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday announced a nationwide mobilisation campaign against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls starting October 23.

Addressing a press conference, the CJP said it would take its campaign directly to states with upcoming elections to collect evidence of alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision process, Moneycontrol reported.

The group reiterated its demand for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

"We will see the pushback from October 23," the CJP stated, emphasising that farmers, Dalits, students, and Gen Z youth would actively participate in the planned nationwide mobilisation.

The party said it had already submitted evidence to the panel hearing the SIR-related case and will now scale up its campaign across the country.

Police Crackdown On CJP's October 10 Delhi Protest

The announcement comes days after a major CJP-led protest in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.

The October 10 protest was met with a massive police crackdown across the national capital. CJP leaders, including founder Abhijeet Dipke, were detained before reaching Jantar Mantar, while thousands of protesters were detained across Delhi.

Central Delhi was placed under heavy security restrictions, including extensive barricading alongside temporary suspensions of public transport and internet services. With Jantar Mantar heavily fortified by security personnel, protesters held smaller demonstrations at key locations, including Connaught Place, Dilli Haat, and Raj Ghat.

What Triggered The Anti-SIR Protests?

The widespread protests were triggered by serious allegations surrounding the SIR exercise, particularly allegations of the large-scale deletion of voters from electoral rolls.

The protests gained further momentum following a report by The Indian Express, which revealed internal disagreements within the Election Commission. According to the report, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections to several SIR decisions taken under CEC Gyanesh Kumar. While the poll body has denied any wrongdoing, public and political pushback continues to intensify.
