Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Friday wrote to police chiefs across India seeking intelligence sharing and coordination with the Delhi Police ahead of Saturday's Cockroach Janta Party protest at Jantar Mantar. In the letter, Mohan noted that although the CJP was "categorically denied permission" for the agitation, numerous inputs suggest the outfit intends to disobey statutory orders and attempt unauthorised entry into Delhi from various states and union territories, potentially disturbing public peace and order.

“To pre-empt any breach of public tranquillity and to safeguard critical infrastructure, all States and UTs are hereby directed to coordinate with the Delhi Police and operationalise immediate preventive measures,” the Home Secretary said, adding that all action must remain within the framework of the law.

Further in his letter, the home secretary wrote that the CJP and its supporting parties/organisations/individuals, during past events, have a documented history of non-compliance with lawful directions, which resulted in major damage of public property and disturbance to law and order in the capital.

Delhi police’s joint commissioner Nupur Prasad, in a press conference on Friday, said that the Abhijit Dipke-led outfit was denied permission because they disobeyed rules when permission was granted to them two months ago for a similar protest.

Joint commissioner Prasad also said that the CJP had sought permission only a few days ago when rules were set in place that made it mandatory to inform police at least 10 days in advance so that they could make arrangements.
