  1. OneTag allows changing FASTag bank without replacing physical tag.
  2. It was launched by Nitin Gadkari at Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.
  3. Porting done via NHAI Rajmargyatra app with specific conditions.

FASTag has made travel through toll plazas faster and more convenient by enabling automatic toll payments. However, changing the bank linked to a FASTag was earlier a time-consuming process. Users often had to deactivate their existing tag, purchase a new one and remove the old sticker from their car's windshield.

That process has now been simplified with the introduction of OneTag, a FASTag portability facility that allows users to switch their issuing bank without replacing the physical FASTag.

The facility means vehicle owners can retain their existing FASTag sticker while changing the bank or operator associated with it. This can save users both time and money and eliminates the need to install a new tag every time they switch banks.

Centre Introduces OneTag Facility for FASTag Users

The central government has introduced OneTag to make FASTag portability more convenient for vehicle owners. Under the facility, users can change their FASTag-issuing bank without purchasing a new tag or removing the existing sticker from their windshield.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched the OneTag facility in Mumbai at the Global Fintech Fest in September 2026.

OneTag is a FASTag portability system similar to Mobile Number Portability (MNP). It allows users to switch the bank providing their FASTag services while retaining the same physical tag.

Under the system, the FASTag sticker, tag ID and vehicle registration number remain unchanged. Only the issuing bank is changed.

The facility has been jointly developed by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Previously, changing the FASTag-issuing bank involved deactivating the existing tag and obtaining and installing a new one. OneTag removes this requirement and makes the switching process simpler.

How to Port Your FASTag

Users can port their FASTag through the NHAI Rajmargyatra mobile app. The process involves the following steps:

- Download and open the Rajmargyatra app.

- Log in using the mobile number linked to your FASTag.

- Select the OneTag option and check your eligibility.

- Provide the required consent and select the new bank.

- Once the verification process is completed, the new bank account will be linked.

- The new bank will provide services for future transactions.

What Are the Requirements for FASTag Portability?

Users must meet certain conditions to port their FASTag:

- The FASTag must be active.

- The FASTag balance must not be negative.

- The tag must not be blocked or blacklisted.

- Porting is not possible if the FASTag chip is damaged.

- The FASTag ID and vehicle registration number will remain unchanged after porting.

Know Benefits of OneTag

OneTag gives FASTag users greater flexibility when choosing their issuing bank. Users can switch to another bank without replacing the physical tag or making changes at toll plazas.

The facility could also encourage greater competition among FASTag-issuing banks, potentially leading to better services, cashback offers and other customer benefits.
