Former Minister Mohsin Raza Gets Big Role Ahead Of UP Polls, Appointed As Chairman Of UP Minority Commission

UP Elections 2027: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027, Mohsin Raza, who earlier served as the Minority Welfare Minister in the Yogi Adityanath government, has been appointed chairman of the state Minority Commission. Eight members have also been appointed to the commission. With Raza's appointment, the commission has gained a politically active face after a long time.

Who Is Mohsin Raza?

The Yogi Adityanath government has once again given a significant responsibility to Raza, a former Ranji Trophy cricketer and president of the Uttar Pradesh State Haj Committee. Raza, a longtime BJP member, is seen as an effort to strengthen the organization's and government's reach among the minority community in the state. He served as Minister of State for Minority Welfare, Muslim Waqf, and Hajj Departments during the first term of the Yogi Adityanath government. Following the formation of the Yogi government in 2017, he was inducted into the cabinet. He also served as a member of the Legislative Council.

Appointment Soon After Raising Irregularities In Waqf Board

Shortly before taking on the new responsibility, Raza met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on August 12 and raised the issue of alleged irregularities involving both Waqf Boards in the state. He demanded a special investigation and audit of Waqf properties at the district level.

Now, the government has once again entrusted him with the responsibility of a key institution dealing with minority affairs. Raza's appointment comes at a time of intense political debate in the state regarding Waqf properties and their management.

Who Are Eight Members Of The Commission?

According to the appointments issued by the government, Sandeep Jain, Anshuman Kumar Singh Massey, Hanpreet Singh Bedi, Mohammad Aslam, Parvinder Singh, Neha Khan, Syed Siraj Abbas Rizvi and Rumana Siddiqui have been appointed as members. The appointed members represent people from diverse social and regional backgrounds. Sandeep Jain is from Etah, Anshuman Kumar Singh Massey from Shahjahanpur, Hanpreet Singh Bedi from Muzaffarnagar, Mohammad Aslam from Fatehpur, Parvinder Singh from Lucknow, Neha Khan from Ambedkarnagar, Syed Siraj Abbas Rizvi from Azamgarh, and Rumana Siddiqui from Lucknow.

Key Duties Of Uttar Pradesh Minority Commission:

The main function of the Uttar Pradesh Commission for Minorities is to protect the rights and interests of minority communities (Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Parsis and Jains) in the state.

Protection of Rights: Monitoring the implementation of safeguards and rights granted to minorities by the Constitution and laws.

Redressal of Grievances: To investigate and resolve complaints relating to violation of rights, harassment or denial of facilities to minority communities.

Evaluation of Development: Evaluation of the progress of social, economic and educational development of minorities in the State.

Suggestions and Recommendations: To give policy suggestions to the State Government for the welfare of minorities and recommend effective steps to be taken.

Studies and Research: To conduct special studies or research to improve the condition of minorities and integrate them into the mainstream of society.
