Maharashtra Crime: A local Shiv Sena (UBT) leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Thane on Tuesday night, leading to tension in the area. The officials, while providing details, stated that Pradeep Purnekar, the deceased, was attacked by miscreants outside his party office in the Manpada area of Ghodbunder Road. While Purnekar was rushed to a nearby hospital, he died during the treatment, sending a shockwave among the supporters.
Supporters Demand Justice
A Sena (UBT) leader stated that Purnekar was the Thane 'vibhag pramukh' or division head of the party, adding that he was attacked by few miscreants on Tuesday night. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Kapurbawdi police station around 9 pm and has sparked tension in the region. The supporters and locals gathered at the site soon after the incident, with fellow party leaders demanding justice.
The officials stated that Purnekar was rushed to Infinity Hospital near R Mall on Ghodbunder Road soon after the firing incident. The medical personnel immediately initiated the treatment due to the severe injuries; however, Purnekar succumbed to the injuries.
Probe Underway
The local police, upon receiving information about the incident, arrived at the scene. Amid rising tensions, the officials assured the supporters of justice and secured the area. The officials scanned the CCTV cameras at the site and nearby regions to trace the escape route of the miscreants. Apart from this, 'Nakabandi' or checkpoints have also been set up across major exits in Thane to catch the suspects, reported news agency PTI.
While providing details, the officials stated that the motive behind the attack is not known yet, adding that a detailed probe has been launched. They further informed that all the potential angles are being probed to get a clue in this matter. The senior leaders of Uddhav Thackeray-led party questioned the law and order arrangements and have demanded immediate arrests of the culprits.
